I'm trying to understand what's so special about Jane's' lyrics and I can't.

If someone thinks these lyrics are genius poetry then more power to them.

In my neighborhood,
When shots go off,
No one bothers.
A POP, and a reply POP, and no reply

Dinosaurs on the quilt I wore
With a girl.
Such a classic girl,
Such a classic girl,
Such a classic girl

Gives her man great ideas.
Hears you tell your friends,
Hey man, listen to my great idea!
It's true I am a villain
When you fall ill,
that's probably because

Men never can be.
Not like a girl.
A classic girl,
Such a classic girl

They may say, Those were the days,,
But in a way,
You know for us these are the days.
Yes, for us these are the days

And you know you're my girl!
Such a classic girl,
Such a classic girl

Yeah for us these are the days

Had a dad
Big and strong
Turned around
Found my daddy gone
He was the one
Made me what I am today
It's up to me now
My daddy has gone away...

Well I spoke to the mountain
I listened to the sea
Both told me that the fountain
Was the best that you could be
My daddy's hand it growed
Show to the lickin
Sonny boy
Grow to whip him!

If you see my dad
Tell him my brothers
All gone mad
They're beating on each other
I walked around
Even tried to call
Got that funny feeling

He's not there
At all...

I think these lyrics are absolute rubbish. But to each his own, I guess.

Well they would write songs about incest, rape and bestiality but unlike you gypsy folk most people aren't into/don't relate to that kind of thing.

You really are a result of incest you braindead kangaroo fucker. Then again, what should one do in the Australian outback other than getting drunk and inbreed in trailers ?

Prospects aren't very high..............

Had a Dad’s lyrics are better than any storm metaphor. Take Axl’s cock out of your mouth, and get up off your shananananana knees knees. They’re good lyrics, great metric, rhymes, and meaning; it’s a song for eric avery about his dad leaving, but also humanity’s loss of faith in a superior power. It’s simple, but it works, and it’s well crafted.

I give you Classic Girl doesn’t have much depth, it’s just a love song made into a lullaby. Not every song has to be a stylistic lyrical statement, a lot of his lyrics are just small thought pieces, but take a songlike Of Course, Three Days, Then She Did, Ocean Size, Summertime Rolls…

I’m not saying your lover Axl sucks, I just don’t think he has the same kind and level of craftmanship. Axl’s strength was somewhere else.

This bickering is pointless!!

You either like them or you don't.  Nobody's gonna convince you.  If you don't like them, that's fine.  I hate to use a cliche, but there's something there and we "get it" and you "don't get it."

I'm not saying either band is BETTER cause nobody can ever prove that kind of bullshit.  I've said before what a waste of time these pissing contests are.

If you listened to their albums and don't like them, fine...they're not for you.  Bitching and moaning isn't gonna get the rest of us to NOT like them, though.

This is starting to sound like a TOOL forum where those fucking jerkoff fans try to convince everyone they're hearing the voice of god in the time signatures and you're a fucking idiot if you don't see that.

(And I say that as a big TOOL fan myself but I have to go in the closet about it cause of what a bunch of fuckheads all other TOOL fans are.)

It looks like it's you who needs to pull Farrell's cock out your pie hole.

Oh, come on fag, be more creative or piss off. You're arguing for the sake of arguing.

You should read carefully before posting. I CLEARLY said I LIKED Jane's too I just found Tremoturd's assertion of Jane's being better in EVERY WAY ridiculous. Nothing more.

He really does sound like some sort of lizard creature that gained the ability to sing. And the original SJW.

My sister and her boyfriend slept in the park.
She had to leave home 'cause he was dark.
Now they parade around in New York with a baby boy...

He's gorgeous!
Ain't nobody leaving!
No one's leaving...

Blacks call each other brother and sis'
Count me in 'cause I been missed.
I've seen color changed by a kiss.

Ask my brother
And my sister.

Jane's magnum opus is Three Days.  Just about everyone will tell you this is their epic, their baby, their Stairway to Heaven.     And it's GOOD.  It is.  It's about this chick Xiola coming into to town for three days to have a crazy sex/drug orgy with Perry and his girlfriend Casey.

Some awesome lyrics too:

True hunting is over
No herd to follow
Without game, men prey on each other
The family weakens by the bite we swallow, oh

But for me, their true masterpiece is "Then She Did..."  (Originally titled "Then She Died" but changed to make it more cryptic.)

I love this one the most.  Their absolute best song ever.  It's about the pain of loss and regret and impotence to change the past.  Navarro particularly likes this song cause it's about Perry's mom who died young (possibly of suicide, not sure if that's an urban legend) and Dave's own mom was murdered by her boyfriend when he was a little kid.  That's fact; not urban legend.

Anyway, the song is a journey.  It takes it's time to get to where it's going.  It's essentially a message to Xiola (threesome girl from before who had died of an overdose) and Perry asking her to check in on his mom in the afterlife.   It's so sad and poignant and I just fucking love it.

The final stanza is the climax, the crescendo, the payoff....it's your reward for listening to the 8 minute song all the way through.  Don't just skip to the end.   Listen to the whole song and earn that ending.

Will you say hello to my ma?
Will you pay a visit to her?
She was an artist, just as you were.
I'd have introduced you to her.

She would take me out on Sundays.
We'd go laughing through the garbage.
She repaired legs like a doctor
On the kitchen chairs we sat on.

She was unhappy, just as you were.
Unhappy, just as you were.
Unhappy, just as you were.
Unhappy, just as you were
